Under the leadership of political commissar Wu Rundong, Yang Jianfeng fearlessly ventured deep into enemy territory, outsmarting and combating the bandits. He appealed to the wavering forces led by Danniang, the female chieftain of Menghu Mountain, through reason, emotion, and a show of force. In the end, he thwarted the schemes of the Kuomintang reactionaries, winning over Danniang and her followers, who sincerely surrendered, and together they wiped out the bandits of the surrounding Jiushan Shibagang.
