Synopsis：In the early years of the Zaichu reign of the Tang Dynasty, the wreckage of the collapsed Heavenly Pagoda in the suburban drill ground is resurrected overnight. A fire dragon in the sky illuminates the night and spews fireballs that destroy the entire drill ground, causing countless casualties. Following, the Heavenly Pagoda also catches fire and turns to ashes. Meanwhile, the ghostly cult of the foreign clan clamors outside the city, claiming that the only way for the world to be spared from disasters is if Empress Wu Zetian imitates the great Buddha and self-immolates. As people inside and outside the city are engulfed in panic, Di Renjie is ordered to investigate this case and meets Pei Dongsheng, the vice minister of the Supreme Court, with whom he has a feud. The two who are acquainted through discord are forced to investigate the case together.
